6 WEEK SEWING BLOCK

This is a small group mixed ability class, where you will work on your own project at your own pace. With a maximum of 5 people, our 6 week sewing block is suitable for absolute beginners as well as experienced sewists. We have lots of projects to get you started, as well as fabric and patterns available in the shop. Get expert help with dressmaking, a bag or home soft furnishing. In week one, new students will be provided with materials for a starter project, such as a pin cushion or tote bag; improvers are free to start their chosen project providing. In the six weeks you can expect to learn seam finishes, button holes, zips, working from a commercial pattern. Sweet Seams students get 10% discount on fabric in the shop.

LEARN TO CROCHET

Have you always wanted to learn how to crochet? Come along and get expert help from crochet teacher Vicky Rickard. This class is suitable for absolute beginners to beginner plus. Start with a simple Granny Square, or pick one of our monthly projects. Cost includes wool and use of crochet hook. Yarn and hooks are also available to purchase in store.

LEARN TO KNIT

Have you always wanted to learn how to Knit? This class is suitable for absolute beginners to beginner plus. Learn how to cast on, the basic stitches and how to cast off! Cost includes wool and use of knitting pins. Yarn and hooks are also available to purchase in store.

Class Type: Adult or teenager, 13 plus, (children under 13 must be accompanied by an adult)

OVERLOCKER BEGINNERS

Come spend an afternoon where you really get to grips with your overlocker. Explore differential feed and rolled hems, cutting width and tension discs. We will sew with different fabrics, trouble shoot tension issues, learn threading methods and more. This three hour class will give you the skills to use your overlocker with confidence.

OVERLOCKER IMPROVERS

Advance your overlocker skills. Make a round neck T-shirt and learn to sew with stretch fabrics. Finish your seams with an overlocker and hem with a twin needle.

This is a beginner plus class. You should be able to confidently use a sewing machine and have knowledge of cutting out a basic pattern.

Students are asked to bring their own Overlocker if they have one. You should have previous experience using an Overlocker to get the best from the class.

KNIT AND NATTER / CROCHET AND CHATTER

Our social knitting and crochet group meet on a Wednesday lunchtime during term time. Tea, coffee and good company provided!

INTRODUCTION TO HAND EMBROIDERY

This is a great opportunity to try hand embroidery and Sonia will teach you a variety of stitches to embroider your own Initial. Add in a bee or a pretty flower to embellish your unique piece. All materials will be included for the session and you will be given a list of stitches to enable you to finish your design.
The class is suitable for 16 years plus. Absolute beginners are welcome.

COPY A FAVOURITE TOP OR DRESS: PATTERN MAKING CLASS

Bring your favourite top or dress along and learn a tried and tested technique to make your own pattern. No garments will be harmed in this process!

This 4 hour class is a pattern making class not a garment making class. If time allows you may be able to cut your pattern out in calico to make a mock up (toile). To get the most out of this class you will need basic knowledge of how to sew darts, tucks, sleeves etc

DRAFT A BODICE BLOCK

An introduction to drafting a bodice block using your own measurements. Learn how to draft a basic bodice block in this 4 hour class. Pattern paper is provided.
