OUR COMPANY

Sweet Seams was started by Sue Rawcliffe in 2010. Beginning with just two regular weekly classes we now offer a range of classes to suit all ages and abilities. Most popular are the classes where you can work on your own project, at your own pace, with an expert on hand to help you make progress. We want you to learn new skills and make new friends.

Whether you want to make your own clothes or soft furnishings for your home, or just be creative with crafts, we have the class for you. Small class sizes make sure that everyone gets the most out of every session. Individual lessons can be arranged.

In 2017 we moved to our lovely shop in East Molesey. All classes now run from here and we stock a range of fabrics, patterns, and haberdashery.

Alongside the regular classes, we also have a range of one-off classes, from ‘Learn to crochet’, to ‘Get to know your over locker’, to ‘Copy a dress’.

SUE RAWCLIFFE

I have been sewing for as long as I can remember. Inspired and taught by my mum who was a brilliant dressmaker I quickly progressed to making my own clothes. I went on to take formal dressmaking classes, followed by City and Guilds Pattern Cutting and Fashion Design at Richmond College.

Making curtains and blinds and doing alterations kept the wolf from the door when the children were younger. Now that they are older the girls are following in my footsteps. I am so proud that they can both sew.

Passing on the skill of sewing gives me great pleasure and running a fabric store is a dream job. So if you want to learn to sew, or just to give it a go, come along to one of our classes, or pop into the shop to see what’s new.

The Sweet Seams Team

Alongside Sue there is a small team, including Varpu, Katka and Mei-Wen.

All have a wealth of experience to offer, from passing on their sewing skills in classes, to advice on the right fabric for your project.

TESTIMONIALS

“My daughter and I had a wonderful morning making a superb pencil case with Sue. We really enjoyed the class! Thank you, Sue.”

Nicole Kornfeld

“Thank you Sue for a wonderful mother and daughter sewing class today. With your patience and skills, you taught my 9-year-old how to make a Christmas stocking and reignited the passion I used to have for sewing. We will definitely be back for another course in the new year, in the meantime, I’ll be telling everyone I know about your courses.”
